RAMALLAH, Sept 23 (KUNA) -- Palestinian Minister of Finance and Planning Shukri Bishara signed Thursday a partnership and support agreement worth USD 72 million over five years with Denmark's Representative to Palestine Ketil Karlsen, at the Prime Minister's Office in Ramallah.
After the signing, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said in a press conference that the agreement includes important sectors in agriculture, local government and aid to society as well.
Europe and Denmark help to strengthen the Palestinian national economy and institutions in order to end the occupation and establish the independent state, Shtayyeh added.
All these aids are in line with the Palestinian National Development Plan, he explained.
Meanwhile, Karlsen said the Danish support focuses on human rights, promoting accountability along with democracy, creating job opportunities, as well as promoting peace and stability, with a special focus on supporting women and youth.
They will focus on the critical and long-term task of building the Palestinian state, Karlsen added.
According to a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, Denmark will also provide humanitarian aid through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East worth USD 82 million for the next five years. (end)
