Uzbekistan: 27 people arrested over religious extremist activity


(MENAFN) On Thursday, Sep. 23 the regional police department stated in a report that the Uzbek law enforcement bodies have arrested 27 persons suspected of extremist activity in three areas of the Tashkent region.

According to the police, probes were in progress to provide a legal evaluation of the actions of the prisoners.

Previously in September, Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs announced the capture of loads of people enrolling in the banned religious extremist organization Hizb-ut-Tahrir in the very region.
