Srinagar: A combing operation launched by the Army after it detected suspicious movement in Uri along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir entered the third day on Tuesday, officials said.

All telecommunication facilities including the internet in the border town remained suspended.

The combing operation was launched on the intervening night of September 18-19, the officials said.

A defence spokesman here said the search operation were going on in the area but did not elaborate if the forces had found anything to lend credence to the reports of major infiltration bid in the sector.

Officials said one soldier had sustained injuries in the “initial contact” with the adversary near the fence along the LoC, which had prompted the massive search operation to ensure that the infiltrators, if any, do not get to the hinterland.

On Monday, the authorities had snapped all telephone and internet services in Uri as a precautionary measure.

The area where suspicious movement was observed falls near Gohalan, the same area from where the attack on Uri Brigade was launched by militants in September 2016.

Youth Hit By Bullet During Searches in Budgam

A youth was injured on Tuesday during a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Khag area of central Kashmir's Budgam district.

Bilal Ahmad Rather of Charihar received a bullet injury in the leg during a search operation launched by army's 62 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and police in Lassipora Khag area of the district, reports said. The search operation, reports said, have been launched on the inputs suggesting presence of militants in the forest area.

According to reports, the government forces have sealed all entry and exit points to ensure that the militants suspected to be hiding in the area do not flee.

Meanwhile, a police spokesperson said that the youth was injured in the firing by militants.

“Terrorists fired upon security forces while on operational duty near village Lassipora Khag in which one civilian Bilal Ahmad Rather R/o Charihar received injury in the leg. The injured is stable and the search in adjacent area is going on. Credential of injured being ascertained,” police posted on its official Twitter handle.
