U.S. President calls on EU, partners to reduce methane 30 pct by 2030

(MENAFN) On Friday, Sep. 17 US President Joe Biden called on EU and other partners to conduct a Global Methane Pledge that would cut global methane emissions by over 30 percent below last year levels by 2030.

Biden noted in a virtual assembly of the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate: "this will not only rapidly reduce the rate of global warming, but it will also produce a very valuable side benefit, like improving public health and agricultural output."

Stressing that the world is at "an inflection point," he stated there is a true consensus on climate catastrophe constituting an existential threat.

He added: "the finding from the new Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change represents a code red for humanity. And the time to act is really narrowing ... close to a point of no return. We don’t have a lot of time ... we have to act now."
