Biden government consents 1st weapons sale to Taiwan


(MENAFN) The Biden government on Wednesday, August 4, approved its first potential arms sale to Taiwan, a contract worth over USD750 million that is probable to increase stress with China.

The sale of 40 155mm M109A6 Paladin Medium Self-Propelled Howitzer System and associated tools has been endorsed, according to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).

A DSCA report that “This sale serves US national, economic, and security interests by supporting the recipient’s [Taiwan] continuing efforts to modernize its armed forces and to maintain a credible defensive capability”.

“The sale will help improve the security of the recipient and assist in maintaining political stability, military balance, economic and progress in the region.”
