Lulu Hypermarket launches 'Qatar Dates Week' Festival


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: A major retailer of the region Lulu Hypermarket chain has launched 'Qatar Dates Week’ festival yesterday in all its stores to celebrate the season of local dates in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment. 

The popular local varieties namely Khalash, Shishi, Burhi, Khenizee and Gurh are made available on display at highly subsidized rates. The festival will continue for a week, until Friday at all Lulu Hypermarket outlets.

Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)Yousef Khaled Al Kualifi inaugurated the festival. The opening ceremony was attended by Head of Extension and Agricultural Services Department Ahmed Al Yafei; Member of Central Municipal Council Mubarak Feraish Mubarak Al Salem; Regional Director Shaijan M.O and Regional Manager Shanavas P.M from Lulu Hypermarket Qatar, and many distinguished Qatari farm owners and dignitaries from the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and retail/FMCG sectors.  

The festival was organised with a view to support local farmers by ensuring better marketing opportunities and value for their agricultural produces. Lulu Hypermarket has always been an ardent promoter of Qatari food, non-food products and agricultural produce, and every year they have been organising promotions like 'Made in Qatar Festival’, 'Qatari Products our First Choice’, 'Festival of Qatari Premium Products’ and 'Festival of Qatari Farm Products,’ etc.     

Inaugurating the festival Yousef Khaled Al Kualifi said:“The festival is being held by the Ministry in coordination with Lulu Hypermarket on the occasion of harvesting season of fresh dates”. 

He said that 11 local farms are participating in the festival which will continue for a week.“This annual festival is being held to promote local dates produce so the farmers can get suitable yields for the investments and hard work,” said Al Khulaifi. 

He urged the customers to utilise the opportunity to buy fresh dates at competitive prices which will be available at 14 branches of Lulu Hypermarkets during the festival. Speaking on the event, Lulu management said:“We are quite happy with the cooperation and support being extended by the MME, farm owners and Qatar Chamber. We greatly appreciate the exemplary performance by the local farms and excellent support given to them by the MME. Festivals of this sort will be instrumental in establishing a platform to deepen and broaden our partnership with the Qatari farmers.  

“Over the last few years Qatar Dates Festival has become more popular, highlighting the huge demand for quality Qatari dates. We congratulate the Ministry for staging this spectacular event and for giving the customers of Lulu an opportunity for relishing the delicious Qatari dates.”
