UN chief denounces assault against UN complex in Afghanistan


(MENAFN) On Friday, Jul. 30 United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres deeply denounced the assault against a UN complex in Herat, Afghanistan, which led to the death of an Afghan security forces guard and wounds to other officers.

In a report attributable to his deputy spokesman Farhan Haq, the UN chief "expresses his condolences to the bereaved family and wishes those injured a speedy recovery."

The secretary-general mentioned the assaults against UN personnel and premises are forbidden under international law and may constitute war crimes.

The secretary-general reaffirmed the UN dedication to shore up the administration and people of Afghanistan in their attempts to accomplish peace and stability.
