QNCECS celebrates 51st Anniversary of Alecso


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (QNCECS) has marked that 51th Anniversary of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (Alecso) by holding an event.

Addressing the event, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education H E Dr. Ibrahim Saleh Al Nuaimi affirmed that the common grounds between the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science and the State of Qatar represented by QNCECS are reflected in the goals and missions stipulated in its charters and legislations, and in the programs and projects implemented to build people and develop nations in vital areas that determine our future and our destiny.

These are the areas of education, culture, technology, environment, information and communication, all of which are the pillars of our work in order to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Undersecretary congratulated the Director of Alecsoon its 51st anniversary, praising the annual celebration of the establishment of the prestigious organization to renew the covenant of Arab partnership and cooperation and to strengthen the rapprochement between the organization and member states through national commissions.

The celebration held virtually by QNCECS on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of Alecso. The event was attended by Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director- General of Alecso; Maryam Yassin Al Hammadi, Director of Alecso participated.

Addressing the event, Secretary-General of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Dr. Hamda Hassan Al Sulaiti, said:“ Today we renew the spirit of dedicated work and we lay down new mechanisms that achieve the common vision between us to elevate cooperation to a real partnership in coordination with national institutions and ministries in the State of Qatar, within regional and international contexts that require working to build strong partnerships to meet global challenges dominated by modern technology. Together we have come to a strong conviction of the need for development and modernization in our programs and projects in order to achieve our aspirations and hopes on development.”

Dr. Al Sulaiti added:“As we celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Alecso, we cannot fail to remember its great achievements and contributions to the service of education, culture and science. It represents a strong motivation for us to exert more efforts as we are facing a number of urging issues, including but not limited to the issue of cyber security and the importance of developing the related potentials among our children and youth to confront cyber-attacks, the issue of climate and environmental pollution and raising awareness of the younger generations about ways to maintain a healthy climate and a clean environment. We are also tackling the issues of women, youth and children, as well as the issue of education and its technical needs, and its impact on the Sustainable Development Goals.”

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Ould Amar, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science, expressed his gratitude to the State of Qatar for its continuous support to the activities of the organization, praised the efforts of Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, and reviewed a number of activities and events carried out by the organization.

Maryam Al Hammadi presented the initiatives of the Ministry of Culture and Sports in the field of writing and publishing, especially with regard to the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, while Salem Al Marri stressed the Katara Foundation’s keenness to cooperate with the organization to enhance Arab cultural work. Faisal Al Nuaimi voiced the aspiration of Qatar Museums Authority to expanding and developing aspects of the partnership between the Authority and Alecso.

The celebration included presentations and documentaries on the efforts of Qatar National Commission in the educational, cultural and scientific fields.

Alecso is a Tunis-based institution of the Arab League established in accordance with article 3 of the Arab Cultural Unity Charter by an announcement made in Cairo, Egypt, on July 25,1970.
