(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GENEVA, June 24 (KUNA) -- An International Trade Center (ITC) report urged to support small and medium-sized companies in order to help them deal with future financial shocks and strengthen their competitive position.
The report pointed to the need to enable this segment of companies to recover from the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It also stated that the transition to a green economy is imperative for the survival of economic and commercial activities and to ensure job opportunities, especially since small and medium-sized enterprises represent more than 50 percent of all jobs worldwide.
The report shows that small and medium-sized businesses in developing countries are among the companies most concerned about the consequences of negative climate change.
Furthermore, the report affirmed that nearly 60 percent of African companies that have invested in green economy businesses have been able to obtain new, high-quality products and access new markets.
The report calls on business support organizations and associations, governments, leading companies and international agencies to catalyze the transition towards a green economy.
The International Trade Center is a joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations to help small and medium-sized businesses in developing and transition economies become more competitive in global markets. (end)
