Iran on Friday starts enriching uranium to 60 percent

(MENAFN)Iran's enrichment of uranium to 60 percent purity is not useful, stated US president Joe Biden, adding that he is pleased Tehran is still in indirect discussions with the US about the two countries remaining compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA).

Iran started enriching uranium to 60 percent, its highest level ever, at its Natanz plant, where an explosion took place this week that Tehran accused Israel. The move is as a react to sabotage at the Natanz nuclear facility.

Reporters quoted Biden as saying in a joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga that "We do not support and do not think it's at all helpful that Iran is saying it's going to move to enrich to 60 percent."

Biden stated that "We are, though, nonetheless pleased that Iran has continued to agree to engage in discussions - indirect discussions - with us and with our partners on how we move forward and what is needed to allow us to move back into the (nuclear deal)," Reuters reported.
