Aboul Gheit Stresses the Importance of Strengthening Arab and Japanese Cooperation in Various Fields


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Cairo, Apr. 01, 2021, SPA -- Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit reiterated today the importance of strengthening cooperation between the Arab states and Japan in various fields, especially since Japan is the third trade partner for Arab countries in the world, with the volume of trade exchange between both sides in 2019 amounted to nearly USD108 billion.
Aboul Gheit's statement came in a speech, which he delivered during his participation in the 2nd ministerial meeting of the Arab-Japanese political dialogue, which was held virtually with the participation of Arab foreign ministers.
The Secretary-General underlined the tripartite partnership between the Arab League, Japan, and the United Nations Development Program, which was launched in 2019 and aimed to implement several cultural and development activities and projects, in a way that allows benefiting from advanced Japanese expertise in these areas, the latest of which was reflected in a project aimed to develop and raise the efficiency of the information technology infrastructure of the Arab League.
Aboul Gheit also touched on the current situation in the Arab region, expressing his aspiration for Japan's continued support for the Arab issues, especially the Palestinian Cause, which has suffered at all levels during the past years, and the aspirations to establish an independent Palestinian state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
