Turkish President dismisses deputy governor of central bank


(MENAFN)Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discharged the deputy governor of the central bank, days following its head was also dismissed in an sudden decision that sat worries in global markets.

The financial Times declared that Murat Cetinkaya, a veteran banker who worked at the Istanbul stock exchange and was appointed in the central bank in 2019, was dismissed on Tuesday.

Mustafa Duman, a previous board member at Morgan Stanley, was appointed as his substitute, accrding to Bloomberg report.

The news came after the removal of the central bank’s reformist governor Naci Agbal on March 20 that sent shock waves across markets and sat off fresh suspicions for millions of Turks worried about their savings. Agbal was also known for his curb opposition against high interest rates.
