Iraq: 9 IS militants killed by Iraqi army


(MENAFN) According to the Iraqi military, on Wednesday, Jan. 27, nine rebels of the extremist Islamic State (IS) group, comprising three senior IS leaders, were killed by Iraqi security forces in Kirkuk province in a current anti-IS action in Iraq.

Yahia Rasoul, spokesperson of the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi forces, stated in a report that violent battles broke out at dawn when a joint force from Counter-Terrorism Service and National Intelligence Service hit IS hideouts in a rocky area called Wadi al-Shay in the southern part of the province.

According to the report, a number of IS fighters were exploded after the soldiers shot their explosive vests, whereas the others were fired and killed in the battles.

Rasoul further said that the killed were three senior IS leaders, two militants in charge of IS warehouses in the province, and another four militants.
