Qatar- MME holds consultative meeting on hazardous waste


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) represented by the Department of Radiation Protection and Chemicals held the third consultative meeting for companies working in the field of hazardous waste / used oils in the State of Qatar. 

The meeting comes within the framework of strengthening the partnership between state institutions and the private sector to protect the environment and advance the Qatari economy, and based on the keenness of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to coordinate with companies on the recycling of hazardous waste. It was attended by representatives of the companies operating in this field.

The meeting discussed procedures for dealing with used oils and disposing of them in a proper manner through authorized establishments, and to implement the legislation in force, in addition to identifying the challenges facing companies operating in the field of used oils in the country in order to develop appropriate solutions for them. 

The meeting dealt with the efforts made by the Ministry to protect the environment and the efforts made to facilitate the work of companies operating in the field of used oil refining and to arrest violators. 

During the meeting, the Department also praised the role played by companies operating in the recycling of used oils and the safe disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with the legislation and laws in force in the country, and in line with the Basel International Convention ratified by the State of Qatar, related to the management of hazardous waste and reducing its risks.

It emphasised the importance of the role that the private sector plays in promoting the national economy, protecting the Qatari environment and preserving natural resources, which are among the pillars of Qatar Vision 2030. 

In turn, the participants stressed the need to implement environmental laws and legislation issued in this regard, in line with the Basel agreement, and it was agreed to continue coordination with the rest of the relevant ministries to facilitate the development of this sector's work.
