Saudi Press: 41st GCC Summit to Be Held Today Amid Exceptional Circumstances


(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Riyadh, January 05, 2021, SPA -- Saudi newspapers highlighted in their editorials today a number of issues at local, regional and international arenas.
Al-Yaum and Al-Bilad newspapers reported in their editorials that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hosting today the 41st Session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) amid exceptional circumstances being witnessed in the world topped by Coronavirus pandemic and its political, economic and health effects.
The newspapers added that the summit's enormous importance is represented in the leaders' keenness on unifying ranks and stances to address regional and global challenges that require coherent positions and tireless work that achieves the aspirations of the Council's member states, achieving the aspirations and hopes of their peoples.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is extremely keen on the strength and viability of the GCC, as it has always worked to achieve the compatibility of the GCC member states due to its common interests that benefit the entire region, the newspapers added.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' invitation of the leaders of the GCC of Arab States to participate in the 41st GCC summit represents a new stage in the history of the Council, which was established to stay, the newspapers concluded.
Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported in its editorial that the economies of the GCC states have made quantitative leaps in the past two decades, as the coherent and growing relations between the GCC states have resulted in important outcomes at the local and regional levels.
The paper further said that Saudi Arabia's economy is the largest in the Arab world, as evidenced by its membership in the G20.
The GCC states represent a global economic powerhouse, as the Gulf indicators recorded great progress and the economies attracted increasing investments and became a destination for major investors. The total gross product of the GCC states reached USD 1,648 billion in 2019, topped by Saudi Arabia with a total of USD 793 billion, the newspaper added.
The cooperation between the states of the GCC represents the cornerstone for everything, including political and social outcomes. GCC states integration will result in large, historical, deep, and strong results, the newspaper concluded.
