Over 200 IS extremists killed in military operations across Iraq this year

The Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) announced on Saturday that a number of 206 insurgents of the terrorist Islamic State (IS) group were killed by its commando forces whereas 292 others were detained throughout the nation so far during 2020.


The statement released by the CTS revealed that the CTS's special operations strategic units, backed by Iraqi and international coalition aircraft, conducted 253 operations against the terrorist group during the earlier period of the year.

It further included that the CTS's cyber security teams also "tracked down 26,280 accounts of terrorist gangs on social media platforms and instant messaging sites."

The statement noted that "The CTS's operations aim to create a safe and stable environment for the life of the Iraqi people by continuing operations to track down and attack terrorist cells and their electronic platforms that spread hatred and extremism among people."
