Four YPG insurgents killed in N. Syrian clashes

(MENAFN) According to a statement issued Tuesday by the Turkish Defense Ministry, four members of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) were shot dead by the Turkish security troops as the formers "attempted to infiltrate" into its cross-border operation zone in northern Syria.

The ministerial Twitter statement revealed that "Four PKK/YPG terrorists, who attempted to infiltrate the Operation Euphrates Shield region to disturb the peace and security environment, were neutralized by the successful intervention of our hero commandos."

Turkish officials regularly use the word "neutralized" in their speeches to infer to the militants in question surrendered or were killed or captured.

The YPG group is considered by Turkey as the Syrian branch of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Regional police said in a statement on Tuesday that a Syrian local suspicious was arrested in a police task in southern Mardin province against the PKK group, following an intelligence suggested the suspect was planning attacks in major Turkish cities and was providing weapons and ammunition to "terrorists."
