Brazil might suffer short term inflationary pressure: central bank

The Central Bank of Brazil's Monetary Policy Committee (Copom) said on Tuesday that the country might suffer a short-term inflationary pressures on the economy, even though the inflation outlook is still under control.

Copom said in a meeting that took place in the previous year that "Long-term inflation expectations remain anchored".

It added that a temporary rise in inflation is predicted over the increase in food prices and the gradual normalization of activities amid the coronavirus outbreak and the induced lockdowns.

The Copom reached a decision in the previous week to keep the benchmark interest rate at 2 percent yearly, which is the lowest level recorded, a move that interrupted a cycle of successive cuts since July a year ago.
