São Paulo – Manufacturing giants around the world are repurposing their assembly lines to address the undersupply of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent novel coronavirus infection. In the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi state-owned investment company Mubadala is making N95 facemasks out of an airplane parts plant.
Mubadala arm Strata Manufacturing is making up to 30 million facemasks a year, in partnership with Honeywell, it said this Tuesday (19). 'We will be able to deliver critical support to frontline health care workers and members of the wider community,' Mubadala CEO Khaldoon Khalifa Al-Mubarak was quoted as saying.
'This new manufacturing capability will help address the critical demand for N95 respirators and bolster the resilience of UAE's personal protective (PPE) equipment supply chains,' he went on.
The new N95 production line will be the first of its kind in the Gulf, Mubadala said. The UAE are currently importing N95 facemasks. The new facility will supply the local market and might export product as well.
Strata Manufacturing was established 2009 and went into production in 2010, supplying the likes of Boeing and Airbus. The information is from Saudi Arabian daily Arab News.
