Qatar- Katara receives more than 1,800 entries in English writing competitions


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Katara Cultural Village announced today that it received a total of 1,831 entries for writing competition held for students and adults.

The competition was launched in support of the government's stay-at-home policy. A total of 1,138 entries were received in the student category and 693 entries in the adult category. There were participants from 83 countries residing in Qatar. There were 39 Qataris among the participants. The majority of the participants came from India, the Philippines, the United States, Britain, Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan and Lebanon.

The topics of the competitions were Working from Home (for adults) and Studying from Home (for students) and were launched when the government announced a partial lockdown to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

General Manager of Katara Cultural Village Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti praised in a statement the overwhelming response to the competition as people look to take advantage of the time they are spending at home.

He added that the winning entries will be selected by a panel of highly competent judges. The first, second and third prizes in both categories carry cash awards of QR 10,000, QR 7,000 and QR 5,000 respectively. Katara has also decided to give seven consolation prizes in each category considering the huge number of participants. Also, the best entries selected by the judges will be published in a book by the Katara Publishing House.
