Boise Idaho area semi driver causes a four vehicle accident

It is common for truck drivers to make serious mistakes on highways that end up causing problems for other drivers nearby. If someone is hurt due to these mistakes, the driver and the trucking company may be named in a civil lawsuit that attempts to make them pay for their actions.

The Idaho State Police were searching for answers and information after a semi truck hit a car and started a multiple vehicle reaction.

Semi truck strikes another vehicle on the highway and leaves the scene

The incident happened in Nampa, just west of Boise on Highway 84. A semi truck collided with a Toyota Corolla right near mile marker 39 while changing lanes, and kept driving away. The Corolla then went into another car nearby, spun around, and crashed into a third car. Two victims needed to be transported to St. Luke's Meridian Medical Center for treatment in the aftermath of the truck accident .

It is unknown whether the truck driver was intoxicated at the time he hit the car, but police believe it may be a possibility. Idaho State Police are planning to conduct a full investigation. They also asked for witnesses to come forward with tips or information that may lead to the arrest of the truck driver.

Driving away from an accident scene

Leaving the scene of an accident is illegal in every state in the U.S. Drivers are required to make contact with the other people involved in the accident, and contact law enforcement if there are any injuries or serious property damage.

In a civil lawsuit for negligence against the truck driver, evidence of this crime can be used to help prove that the driver breached the standard duty of care on the roads. In most situations where the driver at fault violated a traffic law or committed a crime, this strong evidence of negligence can help an injured plaintiff prevail.

The elements of negligence

To prove that a truck driver was responsible for the injuries, a civil attorney must prove all of the elements of the negligence. This includes a lapse in judgment that led to an accident and injuries. After this breach of duty and causation is shown, the lawyer can argue for an amount of damages that is related to the harm that the victim has suffered. This can include costs for medical and hospital treatment, lost wages, and emotional pain and suffering. Because these amounts can vary greatly based on the specific accident, it is best to get in touch with a lawyer before making any assumptions about the value of an accident.
