Afghanistan- Statement on Afghan Poll Results Soon: Pompeo


(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - US secretary of state Mike Pompeo has said his country has been following the results of the Afghan presidential elections very closely.
During an interaction with the travelling press in Prince Sulta Air Base in Saudi Arabia, Pompeo said they had been following the election results very closely.
Pompeo further added "We want to make sure that we''ve got it exactly right, and we''ll make a statement on that before too terribly long."
The Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced the final election results late on Tuesday, declaring Ashraf Ghani as the President of Afghanistan.
According to IEC, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani secured 50.64% of votes while Abdullah Abdullah and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar received 39.53% and 3.85% of the votes respectively.
However, Abdullah rejected the election results and he claimed victory, vowing to soon establish an inclusive government. (Pajhwok)
