PESHAWAR: The owners of private schools in Khyber tribal district have said that it is impossible for them to remove CNG kits from school vans and busses within two days and the government should give them further time.

Muhammad Islam, a member of private schools organisation, said while talking to TNN that the government's decision to ban CNG kits in the school vans to ensure safety of students is commendable. He said there are about 90 private schools in Bara sub-division and most of the teachers and students go to school in vehicles. He said it is not possible for all the schools to remove CNG kits from the school vans within two days because it is a time consuming task.

Khan Wali, principal of a private school, told TNN that most of the students come to school in vehicles with CNG kits. He said the owners of the vehicles on school duty may not be willing to remove the CNG kits so quickly. Khan Wali said the government decision to remove CNG kits from vehicles is appreciable because it will ensure safety of students. However, he said the government could also have ordered replacement of faulty cylinders of vehicles after proper checking.

Janas, a Suzuki van driver, said while talking to TNN that he will see how the replacement of CNG kit from his vehicle affects his business. He said he will have to quit driving if he suffered loss after switching to petrol or diesel.

Shah Nawaz, a resident of Bara, said he has hired a van for his son's school duty for which he pays Rs2,300 per month like parents of other students. He said he arranges this amount with difficulty and if the amount was further increased then he will consider removing his child from the school. He said it is becoming increasingly difficult for citizens to pay for increasing fares of vehicles in this era of high inflation.

Assistant Commissioner Bara has given deadline to two days to remove CNG kits from school vans. The notification said strict action will be taken against those who violated the order which has been issued under the Peshawar High Court verdict.
