(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Kabul police arrested a cyber expert in connection with several cybercrimes in the capital Kabul city, an official said.
Ferdaws Faramarz, the Kabul police spokesperson, said on Saturday, January 4th, that police arrested a convicted person whose name is Morteza, a resident of the 13th district of Kabul city.
According to a statement from
Kabul Police Command's Press Office, Morteza had been conducting cybercrime in
various ways and extorting money from citizens before being arrested. Police
have long wanted him for illegal activities and internet espionage.
Mr. Faramarz further added
that police eventually carried out an operation in the 18th district
of Kabul city on Friday evening and arrested Morteza, who confessed to his crime
and is under police investigation.
Meanwhile, the unprecedented rise
in the number of Internet users in Afghanistan has raised concerns about the
phenomenon of cybercrime in recent years. Professional hackers have utilized the
internet to access people's accounts and still sensitive information.
It is worth mentioning that
the official gazette of the Ministry of Justice, Article Five Criminal Code of
the country defines cybercrime. Accordingly, cybercrime is a crime committed by
modern information technology or Internet communications in cyberspace.
Furthermore, cybercrime is a criminal activity done using the Internet, which includes anything from downloading illegal files to stealing assets, or cash from online bank accounts. It also includes non-monetary offenses, such as creating and distributing viruses on other computers or posting confidential business information on the Internet.
