Qatar takes part in ISO General Assembly


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The State of Qatar is participating in the 42nd International Organization for Standardization (ISO) General Assembly 2019, which kicked off yesterday in Cape Town, South Africa.

The event is attended with delegations from more than 160 countries and various regional and international organisations that work in the different standardization fields.

The Qatari delegation is led by the Chairman of Qatar General Organization for Standardization and Metrology (QGOSM), Eng. Mohammed bin Saud Al Musallam.

This General Assembly is about charting ISO's path towards 2030. As it considers what its priorities should be over the next few years with the development of its new strategy, it is important that ISO considers the constantly changing environment in which it operates.

The session will also discuss a number of reports of relevant regional and international organizations and bodies, presented by experts in the environmental, economic and technological fields to study variables and developments and their impact in the field of standardization, highlighting some opportunities and risks that may arise.

In addition, it will provide context and ideas for discussions to formulate the ISO's strategy and will identify its priorities and orientations creating international standards, to keep up with global developments.

It will also discuss and approve the budget of the organization and the financial contributions of the Member States, in addition to the election of its members for the period (2020-2022) and other financial and administrative matters.

On September 17 and 18, the Qatari delegation had attended the 53rd session of the Committee to Support Developing Countries (DEVCO) which is leads ISO's work on developing countries. 

During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, including the challenges faced by developing countries in the fields of standardization and their relevance to global variables through discussion groups on future trends in conformity assessment.
