EU adopts USD38.9m plan for Cyprus projects


(MENAFN) The European Union (EU) was announced to have allocated around USD38.5 million for Cyprus with a purpose to detect fresh projects aimed at easing its reunification.

In a statement, the European Commission confirmed that it assumed a yearly action program for the Turkish Cypriot community.

According to the Commission, "the objective of the programme is to encourage the economic development of the Turkish Cypriot community with particular emphasis on the economic integration of the island, on improving contacts between the two communities and with the EU, and on preparation for the acquis communauitaire."

Projects are aimed at enhancing infrastructure, backing economic growth, promoting reconciliation and booting relations between the EU and Turkish Cypriots, as affirmed Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis.

Dombrovskis added "I am confident it will contribute to the settlement effort which is the ultimate goal of our assistance."
