Landslides in western Nepal cause death of six


(MENAFN) Local rescue authorities said on Saturday that, 6 people as well as four of the same family have died after landslides caused by incessant rainfall buried two houses in Rolpa region of western Nepal.


All six people were covered under the landslide debris in Cherlabang village in the region Friday night, as said by Chitra Bahadur Gurung, Rolpa district police chief, the police officer said on Saturday morning that, the dead were asleep when a local road fell on the houses and took them away.


The region authorities in organization with police and local residents have been running a rescue process in the remote village, which is placed some 300 km west of Nepal's capital Kathmandu.


According to Gurung, the huge landslides have severed the transport link connecting the district headquarters and other parts of the region.
