São Paulo – Sustainability is one of the pillars of economic diversification processes in many Arab countries. As per a survey from theArab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce Market Intelligence Department, an estimated USD 235 billion are being invested in clean energy across the region, with generation expected to be 79 gigawatts. For the sake of comparison, the Middle East's installed solar power capacity was 2,350 megawatts in 2017, with wind power providing another 434 megawatts.
Projects in the pipeline for the next few years include a sustainable city in Sharjah, UAE, with a USD 544 million budget, and an expected USD 1.63 billion to make Dubai a 'green paradise' by 2025.
These projects could mean business opportunities for Brazilian companies. For one, Brazil is one of the world's leading manufacturers of aerogenerators, as well as the second biggest global market for wind power. Moreover, the country has mastered organic waste-based energy production technologies.
UAE solar power projects alone amount to USD 256 billion, as per the Arab Chamber survey. Several Arab sovereign funds are spending heavily in this front.
Trade show
In light of this scenario, the Arab Chamber has decided to rejoin WETEX,a water, energy, technology and environment show taking place from October 21 to 23 in Dubai, UAE. The goal is to promote Brazilian goods and services, as well as attract investment into Brazil.
Last year, the show (pictured) welcomed 35,000 visitors and featured over 2,000 exhibitors from 53 countries.The Arab Chamber was there , and the then-vice president of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority ( DEWA ), Yousef Ebrahim Al-Akraf, said Brazil plays a key role in sustainability and renewable energy. DEWA is the organizer of WETEX.
