Kuwaiti envoy says UN peacekeepers need adequate training

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, June 19 (KUNA) -- It is imperative to equip UN peacekeeping personnel with proper training, which includes disciplinary practices and language skills, said a Kuwaiti diplomat on Wednesday.
"Some 70 years after the inaugural UN peacekeeping mission was established, we have developed solid peacekeeping principles," Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi said amid annual UN talks over peacekeeping operations.
He highlighted the need to strengthen the relationship between peacekeeping operations and host countries, which is crucial to ensure the success of the mission.
On this relationship, the Kuwaiti envoy said host nations shoulder a bigger responsibility towards the success of UN peacekeeping missions, citing the "praiseworthy" peace initiative in the Ivory Coast as a case in point. (end)
