Tropical Storm Vayu will no longer have any impact on the coasts of Oman. According to the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA), the storm is located over central Arabian Sea at longitude 66.0°E and latitude 20.7°N.
A PACA official said, 'The storm has now reduced to a speed of 50 to 60 knots and is moving northwards towards India. Initially, there were reports that it might come to Oman.'
He added that the storm is about 750km away from the sultanate's coasts (Ras al Hadd) with estimated surface wind speed around the centre ranging between 40 and 50 knots, according to the National Multi Hazard Early Warning System.
PACA said that latest numerical prediction indicates that the movement of the tropical storm is likely to be north to northeasterly direction towards the Indian coasts as a deep depression during the next 48 hours.
PACA also predicted that there is no chance of rain in the next few weeks and temperature will be around 48°C, 46°C and 42°C in the deserts, coastal areas and Muscat respectively. Flights from Muscat to the western Indian state of Gujarat have not been affected by the storm.
