Oman- Vayu weakens, but mercury set to rise

The Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA) on Saturday said that Tropical Cyclone Vayu has weakened to a storm.





According to PACA's weather report, 'The latest observations show that cyclone Vayu moved west/northwest in the last few hours. It is expected to become a tropical storm and will move north/northeast-ward during the next 12 hours.'

PACA said that the wind speed around the centre will be around 64-70 knots and the distance between the eye of the storm and Omani coasts will be 750km.

Meanwhile, PACA has said that temperatures across desert areas are set to rise in the coming days. In a tweet, PACA said that temperatures in western areas of Oman will continue to rise, and warned people to take caution and avoid direct sunlight.

'Over the next three days, temperatures in the desert areas and areas west of Al Hajar Mountains will continue to rise and will range between 46°C and 49°C. It may reach 50°C over parts of the desert areas. Avoid direct sunlight and follow safety instructions.'
