Oman- Nadhira scales Mt Everest

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Nadhira al Harthy has become the first Omani woman to scale Mount Everest and reach the summit at 8,848m (29,029ft) on May 23 at approximately 6.30am Nepal time (4.45am Oman time).
'Summit!!! So that was completely insane! I stood on top of the world for the 3rd time on the morning of May 23rd, 2019.
'More importantly, we all made to the summit and back, safe,' said Elia Saikaly, the award-winning adventure filmmaker and two times Mt Everest summit finisher, who was documenting the trip. Three other women from Arabia too made it to the world's highest peak along with Nadhira.

Saikaly was documenting the trip in a film calledThe Dream of Everest
, a feature length documentary that chronicles the story of Mona Shahab from Saudi Arabia, Nelly Attar and Joyce Azzam from Lebanon besides Nadhira from Oman.

With a Master's degree in Geography, Nadhira had always loved hiking and climbing but her ambition to scale Mt Everest set her apart from the rest.

'I have a lot to say and share. I cannot believe what I saw up there. Death, carnage, chaos and lineups. Dead bodies on the route and in tents at camp 4. People who I tried to turn back ended up dying. People being dragged down. Walking over bodies. Everything you read in the sensational headlines all played out on our summit night,' Saikaly was quoted as saying.

Saikaly also said, 'On a more positive note: The 4 Arab women, totally crushed it up there. How you climb is as important as you climb and they all graciously made it to the top of the world.'

He added, 'I shot it all. And I mean all of it. The 'Dream of Everest' is going to be a heck of a ride of a documentary. I pushed myself as hard as I could and never stopped filming. I even jumped up on the knife edge ridge to get the shots of the team on the Hillary Step.'

'To all the Sherpas, my personal Sherpa team, the guides at Madison Mountaineering - all of this is possible because of you. We are nothing without you and all summits are possible because of you,' Saikaly said on his social media account.
