OAK PARK, Ill. - May 19, 2019 -PRLog-- Single Black Female (SBF) is a two-woman show with rapid-fire comic vignettes that explores the lives of African-American middle-class women. We join these women as they search for love, clothes, and dignity in a world that fails to recognize them amid a parade of stereotypical images. The cast of Single Black Female includes Ginneh Thomas (Woman #1) and Tiffany Addison (Woman #2).
Ginneh Thomas (Woman #1) plays her role with perfect articulation, quick wit, and strong energy as she represents a group of the prideful Single Black Female who has tried relationships with both men and a woman, but to no avail. Ginneh Thomas received her MFA from Southern Methodist University.
Tiffany Addison (Woman #2) presents a softer feminine quality to the show. She allows sexuality to flow from her performance as a professional middle-class Single Black Female who is open to love and seeking the perfect man, but still remains without a spouse.
Single Black Female (SBF) was written by Lisa B. Thompson, award-winning artist, scholar, teacher, and LA Weekly Theatre Award best comedy nominee.
The Play is directed by TaRon Patton who received her MFA in Acting from UCLA. She is also very proud of her role as Executive Director of Congo Square Theatre Company.
The design team includes Congo Square Artistic Associate Andrei Onegin (Scenic Design), Shawn Wallace (Sound Design), Antionette Pendleton (Dance Choreography) and Ed Richardson (Lighting Design). The stage manager is Razor Wintercastle.
The set design provides perfect use of the stage and the entire theatre. Lighting is perfectly tuned to mood and the upbeat music keeps the audience in a jovial mood, despite some of the emotional messages of the play. Single Black Female has a Regular run from May 10th through May 19th. This show and the Congo Square Theatre's 2018-2019 season is made possible through funding provided by Target, The Paul M. Angell Foundation, The Alphawood Foundation, The Donnelly Foundation, and The MacArthur Fund for the Arts and Culture at Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
Congo Square Theatre Company is an ensemble-based entity that seeks to broaden the scope of the theater-going experience. The ensemble's effort matches education and the performances of productions that push the envelope in the telling of the diverse stories from within the African Diaspora - that ultimately resonate throughout humanity.
