Morocco takes action against illegal crossings to Spain

(MENAFN) Morocco is using new strategies to cut into the increase of migrants seeking to use it as a way to get to Europe, stopping about 25,000 attempts to reach Spain so far this year.

According to the border security chief, this represents about 30 percent more failed attempts to cross to Spain compared with the same period last year.

Moreover, 50 human trafficking networks have been taken apart this year, up 73 percent on this time last year.

"Vulnerabilities along the (northern) coast" were identified, eliminating "niches for smugglers" who used those points to make crossings, the chief added.
