Ethiopia: Ethnic gunfights claim 17 lives


(MENAFN) State media outlet Amhara Mass Media Agency (AMMA) declared that over 17 people have died in ethnic gunfights in Ethiopia's Benishangul Gumuz regional state, located in the western part of the country.

AMMA added that the ethnic riot which took place at the weekend involved members of the local Gumuz ethnic group and Amhara ethnic group.

AMMA revealed that 11 of the victims were ethnic Amharas while the rest 6 were ethnic Gumus, with both sides deploying blunt arms and modern firearms during the gunfights.

Regional and federal security units are currently been dispatched in the distrubed areas to block new eruption of the riot.
