Oman Aviation Group plans dedicated air cargo corridor


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman Aviation Group is working on plans to give a push to its cargo business by setting up a dedicated cargo corridor across the country, according to a senior official of the group.

The dedicated cargo corridor will make it easier for everyone to ship goods from Oman and will also provide a hassle-free connectivity from sea ports, freezones and dry ports to the airports.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Oman Aviation Group's new brand identity launch ceremony on Monday, chief executive officer Mustafa al Hinai said that, to set up a dedicated cargo corridor they need to sign some policy decisions regarding open sky activities and for that Oman Aviation Group is working with the Public Authority for Civil Aviation (PACA).

He expressed confidence that the PACA will soon sign bilateral agreements with countries in Africa, Asia, apart from negotiations with the EU for open skies.

'Our focus is to significantly contribute to Oman's Vision 2040 by developing the sector's business potential and promoting it globally. Our teams work on key national initiatives such as developing airport vicinities, distribution plans, as well as growing sea-to-air cargo capabilities,' Hinai said.

He added that to promote future growth, Oman Aviation Group is currently working with a number of globally known aviation-related brands to attract a diverse, new set of tenants and new investors to boost aviation-related activities in the sultanate. 'These brands include global logistics companies and internationally renowned hospitality, food, healthcare and freight specialists.'

Oman Aviation Group is also focusing on developing right infrastructure for a cargo hub, including a master hub for leading brands. Around 223,000 tonnes of air freight was handled in 2018.

Oman Aviation Group plays a key role in developing the infrastructure and services necessary to allow the country to grow as a world-class destination for global travelers.

The group is focused on delivering desired results through a fresh, joined-up approach involving the development of airport cities, freezones and a coordinated national air cargo strategy, as well as the expansion of Oman's flagship airline, Hinai said.
