EU, Germany dismiss U.S. appeal to abandon Iran nuke accord

(MENAFN) Germany dismissed with the European Union (EU) an appeal the United States made for the Iranian nuclear accord to be abandoned.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence made the call in an effort to "isolate" Iran through having other countries leave the nuclear deal.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas affirmed that "together with the Brits, French and the entire EU we have found ways to keep Iran in the nuclear agreement until today."

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini also stated: "I believe if it was not for the European Union and its member states, starting with France, Germany and the UK, I am sure that the nuclear deal with Iran would have been dead long ago," adding: "we believe it is fundamental and crucial for our security."
