São Paulo – The University of São Paulo (USP) will offer a course about the Arab cinema in May. The participation is free upon registration, which must be made until May 1st, according to information published in the university's site.

The course will offer an introduction on the history and development of the film production in the Arab world and will be divided in two parts. The first of them, with five classes, focus on the Egyptian cinema, the most advanced of the Arab world, and the second one will also have five classes, these about the Algerian, Syrian, Tunisian, Palestinian and Lebanese cinema.

According to information published by USP, the course will show an in-depth exploration on the role of the cinema within an Arab culture, putting its movies in a historical-political context. There will also be some insights about the movies from other Arab countries that have been realized after the decline of the Egyptian cinema in the 1960s.

During the course 'Cinema in the Arab World', special attention will be given to the response and relation of the Arab filmmakers and the movements in international cinema, such as neorealism, modernism, digital production, and pos-modernity.

The on-site course is directed for people interested in cinema and Arab culture. You don't have to be graduated to attend. If there are more applicants than the 100 vacancies allotted, a selection will be made, considering the rapport between the applicant and the theme. The course starts in May 13 and goes until May 24 at CINUSP Paulo Emílio in São Paulo, Brazil.
