Decentralization to strengthen Cameroon councils


(MENAFN) Cameroon is expected to see a major development within the 360 domestic councils in the country through its decentralization reform program.

"The reform is aimed at giving a new impetus to local development," stated Cameroonian Prime Minister and Head of government Joseph Dion Ngute.

According to the prime minister, "the dynamism of the Cameroonian youth will find in the councils, a privileged ground of expression. There will be decisive opportunities for local development."

Ngute stressed that the conference is considered as a way to build the foundation for effective decentralization" in Cameroon.

He added: "this exercise is intended to prepare councils to take full control and play its role. Government wants to make councils a veritable platform for multiple opportunities for the population."
