(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan would export 2000 kilograms of saffron each year to India's Mumbai city under an agreement with MIK company, an official said on Friday.
Mumbai-based Afghanistan commercial attaché Abdul Nafi Sarwari told Pajhwok Afghan News that acting Afghan minister of commerce and industry Kamla Seddique was also present at the contract signing ceremony.
He said the Indian firm would buy 2000kg of saffron at a cost of $2 million from Afghanistan each year and introduce the product to Indian markets under the Afghan label.
He said previously the Indian firm would import saffron from Iran, but the company evinced interest in the Afghan saffron at a joint exhibition.
Sarwari said Afghan products, especially dried fruits, had found good market in Mumbai city.
He said Indian traders used to import from 800 to 1000 tons of dried fruits from Afghanistan to Mumbai annually.
