Oman- New fish market to open in Ibri today: MoAF


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) will open a new fish market in the wilayat of Ibri in Dhahirah governorate on Wednesday.

Eng Yahya bin Khalfan al Hadidi, director of the Department of Fish Market Regulation in MoAF, said, 'The market will be officially opened under the patronage of H E Sheikh Saif bin Himiyar al Malik al Shuhhi, Governor of Dhahirah, in the presence of H E Dr Hamad bin Said al Oufi, Undersecretary in MoAF.'

He added, 'The market is coming up within the framework of the ministry's efforts to develop the marketing system through the establishment of wholesale and retail outlets for fish products.'

Eng Hadidi said that the fish market in Ibri has been set up over a 3,000sq m area and a built-up area of 1,530sq m. It has been built at a total cost of RO600,000 with the support of PDO as per its intention to contribute to the development of the local community.

'The project will provide buyers and sellers a trading platform in a structured building that is well designed to meet the needs of everyone.'

He added that the market will be equipped with a centralised air conditioning system and other facilities conforming to the quality control requirements.

'There will be 32 sales tables, 16 fish cutting tables and two tables to cut large fish.

'There will be an ice factory with a daily capacity of five tonnes which will contribute to raise the quality of fisheries products sold in the area.'
