MENAFN- Asia Times) A group of junior and senior high school Filipino students won a total of 33 awards at an international mathematics competition held in India early in December.
The Philippines finished second in the overall rankings at the 8th International Youth Mathematicians Convention held in Lucknow, India, from December 1 to 7. The students won six gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals in the individual competitions and won 13 awards in the team, relay and math quiz, the Manila Bulletin reported.
Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG) president Isidro Aguilar said the competition in India was the last for Filipino students this year and they did well for the country.
'The year 2018 was another victorious one for our young math wizards as they competed and won in international math contests in different countries. We will continue to train them for contests abroad,' Aguilar said.
According to MTG, about 500 students from the Philippines, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Nepal, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates took part in the competition.
In June, three Filipino high school students won two silver and a bronze medal at an international mathematics competition in Rhodes, Greece. Fourteen students won a total of 14 medals in another competition in Bulgaria in July.
