Oman- 793 expatriates arrested for violating fishing law till September: MoAF


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- As many as 793 expatriates were arrested and 4,600 violations registered under the Marine Fishing Law and Protection of Living Aquatic Resources in nine months this year.

The figures were revealed at the second annual meeting of the Fisheries Control and Licensing Department that works under the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF), stated a press release.

H E Dr Hamad bin Said bin Suleiman al Oufi, Undersecretary, in the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries chaired the meeting in the presence of a number of members of the department. He hailed the efforts of all those cooperating to combat violations in the fisheries sector.

The fisheries control teams from the department in cooperation with the Ministry of Manpower conducted six joint campaigns to arrest the violators during this year. The members of the department also discussed plans and programmes that will be implemented in cooperation with other government bodies such as the Ministry of Manpower, the ROP and offices of the governors for combating such violations.

The meeting also listed the initiatives, campaigns and seminars to spread awareness among citizens in the coastal areas. The seminars will specifically focus on the negative effects of employing expatriates illegally in the marine and fisheries sector.
