DOHA: Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, Chairman of National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), yesterday met with Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the State of Qatar Willi Kemble, and discussed with him ways of cooperation and exchange of experience in the field of human rights.

NHRC Chairman also met with Director of the UN Human Rights Training and Documentation Center for South-West Asia and the Arab region in Doha Abdulsalam Sayed Ahmed.

During the meeting, Dr Al Marri stressed the keenness of the National Human Rights Committee to continue cooperation and exchange of experiences with the centre in order to promote the spread of human rights culture. He also praised the fruitful cooperation between the two sides during the past period.

The UN Human Rights Training Centre was established in Doha in 2009, and it is a regional centre of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, concerned with training, documentation and dissemination of human rights culture in the Arab region and South-West Asia.

The importance of the centre lies in the fact that the decision to establish it was issued by the General Assembly of the United Nations, and the centre is providing periodic reports on its activities to the General Assembly every two years for discussion and approval of its budget.

The idea of the establishment of the UN human rights training and documentation center for South-West Asia and the Arab region was highlighted at the 12th Asia regional meeting on the promotion and protection of human rights, held in Qatar in March, 2004.
