Oman- Shonal's winning streak continues

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat-based seven year old Shonal Kunimal continued to showcase his mettle in abundance as he claimed the third win of the season when he took the top honours in the second round of the 2018-19 UAE Rotax Max Challenge Series in the bambino class (5-8 years old) at the Al Ain Raceway on Friday.

Having lost the first round of the Rotax series to his fellow Muscat-based racer, Adam Awan, earlier this month, Shonal edged past him this time.

Seven year old Adam finished second for yet another one-two for Oman drivers at the UAE championship. Greek racer Leonidas Peruzzi finished third.

Shonal is the defending champion of 2017-18 Rotax series. On Friday, he began the first of the four time-trial races with a win in a lap time of 1m:28.673s on the 1.384km circuit. He was followed by Adam (1:29.903).

In the fourth and final time-trail Shonal timed 1:29.785 to help him bag 79 points out of maximum 80. Adam took the honours in a time of 1:28.817.

Shonal had earlier won the Dubai Bambino Cup first round while he had begun the season with a win in the opening round of the IAME X30 series last month. Coached by former Oman's go-karting star, Sanad al Rawahi, Shonal's next race will be the second round of the IAME X30 series in Ras al Khaimah, UAE, on Friday.
