Iran captures record quantity of narcotics


(MENAFN) The director of the National Drug Control Agency Massoud Zahedian declared that about 403 tons of drugs have been captured in Iran since the beginning of the Iranian year (starting March 21, 2018).

Massoud Zahedian added: "This figure is a world record."

He confirmed: "Some 500 tons of drugs were seized in 2017 and 1290 drug traffickers were detained."

Zahedian underlined the necessity of strengthening the country's borders as a part of the battle against drugs, as the average of narcotics produced has risen from 185 tons in 2011, to 9,000 tons.
