tennis ace Roger Federer has warned Australia's Nick Kyrgios that he needs to build his work ethics to add more shine to his talent.

Kyrgios is one of the rising tennis stars, but is often surrounded by on-field controversies.

And here is what Federer said.

Issues

After getting embroiled in a heated argument with the chair umpire in the recently concluded Laver Cup, Kyrgios was seen having issues with the match official in the ongoing Shanghai Masters.

The umpire then suggested that his efforts were "borderline".

Kyrgios suffered an exit in the first round itself, after losing to Bradley Klahn in a three-set duel.

Federer had a word of advice for Kyrgios.

"I think it's really up to him where he wants to go and what his potential really holds. I don't think he really knows exactly what his potential is. And only through understanding work ethic and scheduling and whatever it might be, creating the right team around himself, only then can you unlock the potential really."

Kyrgios has struggled in Shanghai.

In 2017, he walked off mid-way through his match.

In 2016, he was fined after being accused of giving away points during a game.

Federer feels Kyrgios needs to follow a process.

"But there is still a process in place that he needs to do like any other player needs to go through in order to be successful."

Hawkeye overruled the umpire's decision, who went ahead in calling for the point to be replayed.

This got Kyrgios angry and said, "You are delusional."
