Oman- OTC launches new Business Enterprise programme

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman Tourism College (OTC) has introduced a new undergraduate degree programme in Business Enterprise two pathways, one in service management and the other in innovation and entrepreneurship. The new course will commence this month.

Dr Abdulkarim al Mughairi, dean of OTC, said, 'By tailoring programmes that match the rising demand's of our nation's emerging tourism industry, OTC ensures appropriate graduate employment opportunities as we provide the skills required for realising His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said's vision of a world-class tourism destination operating at international standards. With the continued introduction of new undergraduate programmes, OTC has been able to better match the scope and reach of its academic offering against that of students and community expectations.'

In order to ensure that the course's content met the growing needs of the Omani context in line with global industry standards, OTC has benchmarked its programme against international universities offering similar programmes such as the Universities of Manchester and Sheffield Hallam in the UK, Victoria University in Australia and the University of Colorado in the US.

The focus of OTC's teaching and learning strategies is to stimulate an enquiring, analytical and creative approach to work. Active student engagement with course content is vital to their achievement of the programme's outcomes. Whilst the core learning strategy is based on problem solving and case studies, a range of methodologies have been employed to deliver productive yet varied learning experiences. Students will be guided to take greater responsibility as independent learners engaging in group discussions, seminars and self-study, with an increased emphasis on creativity, research, problem solving and the formulation of viable market solutions.

Direct admission to the BSc (Hons) and Diploma programmes without a Foundation Certificate from OTC requires an excellent performance in the college's placement test, a score of 5.5 in IELTS, or an equivalent in TOEFL, as well as an interview. Students who have successfully completed the Foundation programme in another institute of higher education may also be directly admitted to OTC's undergraduate programmes.

There have been several new developments in OTC over the last five years in association with the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) including the Bachelor's Degree and Diploma programmes in Tourism and Hospitality Management, Event Management and Tourism Marketing.
