Kuwait Scientific Ctr: keen to encourage youth develop their abilities

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KUWAIT, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- Director-General of Kuwait Scientific Center Rana Al-Naibari stressed KSC works hard to encourage youth to discover and develop their skills and teach them meaning of responsibility and professional commitment at an early age through their summer volunteer program.
This came in a speech delivered by Al-Naibari during a graduation ceremony on Sunday of 80 volunteers from its 18th summer program, which was held under the auspices of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Mohammad Al-Jabri.
She noted that the program, launched in 2001, allows Kuwaiti youth aged 15 to 18 to learn from experienced professionals working at the Center, as well as acquiring new skills.
The program also provides an opportunity for young volunteers to work in a team spirit and contribute to the success of managing this pioneering scientific, cultural and tourism edifice in Kuwait and the region.
Al-Naibari said that the program starts every year from June to August, but will be launched in May 2019. The course will be available to students born in 2002, 2003 and 2004 and require full-time volunteering.
The summer program is a valuable opportunity to transfer the culture of the Center to the young people so they could inspire visitors on science, environment, wildlife and marine life, she added.
She affirmed that volunteering is a step towards achieving several goals, all in the interest of youth, stressing that volunteering is a fundamental pillar for achieving long-term sustainability in society and progress.
For his part, Shafiq Al-Sayed Omar, Assistant Undersecretary for Youth Projects Affairs at the Ministry of State for Youth Affairs, said on behalf of the minister the having 80 volunteer graduates every year is something to be proud of.
Director-General of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), Dr. Adnan Shihab-Eldin said in a press statement, the scientific center is a pioneer in volunteering and succeeded through joint activities with the public, especially youth.
The Center is the first of its kind in the Middle East, focuses on spreading knowledge, and offers visitors the opportunity to explore these areas through many interactive facilities and activities that are held throughout the year, he added. (end) zak.aa
