Oman- Over RO6mn of aid pledged by businesses for relief work in Dhofar, Al Wusta

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Corporate donations for relief efforts and rebuilding of Dhofar and Al Wusta are on the rise with Oman LNG announcing last week that it will donate RO5mn for the cause.

Over RO6mn aid has already been announced by companies working to support rehabilitation work in affected areas.

Chaired by H E Dr Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi, Minister of Oil and Gas and Board of Directors of Oman LNG approved RO5mn to support relief efforts in areas affected by Cyclone Mekunu in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. 'The efforts are part of Oman LNG's response to ease lives of ordinary people,' the company stated.

The company added that the financial aid underpins Oman LNG's pioneering role towards social responsibility, supporting the tremendous efforts by the government to stimulate recovery for the impacted areas in the aftermath of the cyclone.

'The RO5mn initiative follows earlier immediate relief efforts by Oman LNG for the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates where trucks loaded with emergency supplies were delivered to the families effected by Cyclone Mekunu,' it stated.

Last week, BankDhofar too had announced RO1mn contribution. 'In demonstration of our solidarity with the affected families, the Board of Directors of BankDhofar decided to contribute RO1mn to support citizens in Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. The amount will be managed in coordination with the Oman Charitable Organization,' the bank stated.

Immediately after the cyclone Salalah Airport and Omantel had announced contribution of RO100,000 each for relief work in Dhofar.

In a statement, Oman Airports had said, 'Through Salalah Airport we are please to make a financial contribution of RO100,000 as a part of our national duty and social responsibility.'

Omantel had announced its contribution on May 26, stating, 'We announce the allocation of RO100,000 to support families affected by Cyclone Mekunu in the two governorates.

'We will work with the competent authorities to implement this initiative.'
